Crowns and Bridges

Crowns in Witney

Long Hanborough Dental Practice crowns offer a snug, natural-coloured cover up. Sometimes known as ‘caps’, they fit completely over a whole tooth, concealing defects caused by chips, decay, discolouration or large fillings. Made from a variety of materials, including metal, porcelain, resin, or ceramic, they can also be used to support a dental bridge or affixed to a dental implant.

Treatment Steps For Crowns

1 icon

Your dentist, at Long Hanborough Dental Practice, will remove a thin layer of your tooth, making sure they leave a strong core. The amount of tooth removed depends on the thickness of the crown, which can differ depending on the material used to make it.

2 icon

We will then take digital impressions of your teeth and record their colour so the crown can be made to fit perfectly. In-between appointments, your dentist will protect the prepared tooth with a temporary crown.

3 icon

Once your crown is ready, the temporary crown is removed and the new permanent one fixed in place with a strong dental cement.

Dental Bridges

Bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth. They consist of a false tooth positioned between two crowns that slot over the teeth on either side of a gap (known as abutment teeth) or they can be held in place by dental implants. They are usually made from porcelain fused to a metal or ceramic base, to offer a blend of strength and good looks. They are also durable and resist stains.

Treatment Steps For Dental Bridges

1 icon

The abutment teeth will be prepared by removing a layer of enamel to ensure there will be sufficient room for the crowns. We will take digital impressions so the bridge can be tailor-made to fit.

2 icon

While the bridge is being made, a temporary bridge may be put in place to protect the exposed teeth.

3 icon

When ready, the bridge is checked and adjusted to make sure it fits perfectly and you are happy with the fit. It will then be fixed in place with strong dental cement.

Aftercare

Good oral hygiene is essential to ensure the durability of your crown and bridge. This means keeping your teeth and gums healthy by brushing with fluoride toothpaste twice a day and flossing between your teeth.
